Sama Sarraj is a Clinical Social Work Trainee at We Rise Collective, and a current student at Boston University's School of Social Work. Sama received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Middle Eastern Studies from Columbia University.
Sama believes there is no “one size fits all” when it comes to therapy, and uses a holistic, collaborative, and person-centered approach. She seeks to create a non-judgmental, empowering, and culturally sensitive space in her practice, where clients can identify and process their thoughts and emotions around the challenges they are navigating. Sama pays special attention to the cultural, societal, and systemic factors that impact individuals’ wellbeing. She is trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and also draws from liberation health, cognitive behavioral, and narrative therapies in her practice.
As a Palestinian, Sama cares deeply about social justice issues, and believes in the power of therapy as a starting point towards collective liberation. She has extensive experience working with marginalized groups; from refugees and the LGBTQ+ community in her hometown of Amman, Jordan, to unhoused individuals and those struggling with substance misuse in the Boston area.
In her free time, Sama enjoys doing yoga, listening to music, spending time outdoors, cooking, and traveling. She is fluent in English and Arabic.
